Dr. Susan G. Hamm serves as the Director for the Geothermal Technologies Office in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) at the U.S. Department of Energy Department. In this role, she leads efforts to improve performance, lower costs, and accelerate deployment of geothermal technologies. Under her leadership, the budget for GTO has doubled over 5 years, and the Office has seen exciting successes in hydrothermal, enhanced geothermal systems, and low-temperature R&D. Under the Biden Administration, Dr. Hamm has led the Office in a pivot to add programs in geothermal demonstration of both heat and power to meet the Administration priorities of a decarbonized grid by 2035 and a decarbonized energy sector by 2050, and to add emphases in environmental and energy justice, workforce, state and local partnerships, and STEM into all GTO programs.
