Aleta Finnila received her Ph.D. in Geology from Brown University researching early lunar magmatic differentiation and simulating silicate glass properties. After finishing her degree, she worked for several years as a computer programmer creating custom administrative and banking software. Dr. Finnila currently works for Golder Associates in Redmond, Washington as a geologist on the FracMan software technical team specializing in discrete fracture network modeling with clients in the oil and gas, nuclear, mining and geothermal sectors. Past work in geothermal energy has focused on defining the physical parameters limiting enhanced geothermal system development using finite element flow simulations with considerations of the dependence between natural fracture set orientations and regional stress state for hydraulic stimulation. She is a member of the Utah FORGE modeling team and enjoys using Python and R scripting for machine learning applications and statistical analysis.
