Jordan Self has over a decade of experience in drill bit engineering.Self’s focus has been on polycrystalline diamond compact (PDC) drill bit design, performance, and innovation. He has authored multiple technical papers showcasing advancements of various PDC shapes used in oil and gas drilling. The application of oil and gas products and techniques to geothermal, hard-rock drilling has been a gamechanger in driving down geothermal well construction cost by improving drill bit life and increasing the rate of penetration (ROP) at which they drill.Self’s problem-solving, analytical methods began developing at the Colorado School of Mines while earning his B.S. in Engineering. His skills continue to develop through professional experience and aided in the proper drill bit selection throughout the last three Utah FORGE wells. As a member of the highly skilled Utah FORGE project team, the valuable post-run analyses Self provided contributed to the team’s significant well-on-well performance improvement.
