Kevin Kitz, P.E.helps clients create rapid and large commercial investment opportunities in geothermal energy using innovative approaches to existing technology.
Kevin has been a specialist in geothermal development for over 35 years. His work has encompassed the gamut of the geothermal power industry from the subsurface to the power plant, including reservoir, drilling, design, construction and O&M, as well as PPA and EPC contract negotiation.
Recently KitzWorks has provided technical leadership on teams to commercialize (a) geothermal hybrid plants using solar thermal heat and/or gas turbines, (b) storing solar thermal heat underground to create synthetic geothermal reservoirs, and (c) a new dry-cooled steam condenser for conventional power plants.
His most recent efforts is an innovation in geothermal heat pump systems.Air source heat pumps store heat or cool in radial arrays of geothermal boreholes during seasonal and diurnal off-peak periods.Water source heat pumps recover the stored energy to cut peak load in summer by ~50% and winter by ~75%.It makes buildings more efficient, but most importantly, it lowers grid CO2 and cost for all ratepayers. It has the potential to be a multi-billion dollar investment opportunity across the US and the world.
